Perfecting Patient CareSM

Perfecting Patient CareSM System, or PPC, is a healthcare transformation model in which patient care is driven by patient need. Through PPC:

  • The work of health care is designed, organized and managed according to the needs of the patient, rather than needs of hospitals, clinicians, insurers or providers.
  • Errors and poor outcomes are viewed as opportunities for learning and improvement, not blame and punishment.
  • Faulty systems are understood to be the source of errors and poor outcomes, not faulty people. Care processes are systematically tracked to determine whether the best possible patient outcomes are achieved.
  • Clinical professionals form learning teams, working collaboratively to use their skills and knowledge for experimentation and improvement in care processes.
  • Direct observation, data collection, and real-time problem solving are conducted at the point of care.

By perfecting patient care—redesigning health care to be safe, efficient, high quality, and based on best practices—better outcomes will be achieved at lower cost. Visit the Pittsburgh Regional Health Initiative for more details.
