The High Schools & Careers: The New Value Proposition summit’s goal was to make career ambition and career knowledge a core part of the high school experience and an essential component of high school reform. National thought leaders from business, education and human services sectors assembled to develop a common platform for reform. Resulting outputs are listed below. A detailed analysis of Summit recommendations and subsequent plans of action will be completed July 2008 as an edition of ROOTS, a special publication by the Jewish Healthcare Foundation. If you would like to provide information relevant to this process, please contact us. The Center for Career Learning (CCL), an Initiative of Health Careers Futures, has been formed to advance, among employers, schools and community organizations, strategic collaboration that build career awareness and enhance student preparation for work in the regional healthcare industry. The Center for Career Learning’s website – the primary gateway for providing resources and tools that build regional capacity for career learning, support student engagement and promote models for career and academic preparation – will be launched July 2008. The United Way of Allegheny County (UWAC) initiated a joint two-year Pathways to Health Careers Fellowship program with the Center for Career Learning. Please visit United Way of Allegheny County for more information on the RFP process. This program is funded by UWAC and the Jewish Healthcare Foundation.
